Captain Marvel was the most popular and highest selling comic of t's time. Including Superman. While he was an alien, Billy Batson was an ordinary boy, gifted with magical powers beyond The Man of Steel. DC Comics never beat Captain Marvel in theaters or sales. They threatened to sue, claiming The Captain was a ripoff of Superman. In fear they ceased production and went out of business. DC then later purchased the rights. Which is why Shazam, can now be found in DC Comics.
